Moms' Wellness Retreat at Nurture Spa

Second Friday of the month:  Family Friday / Motherhood / Health & Wellness

Finally, one full day at the spa for me.
This thought was running through my head as I count the days to the spa retreat organized for our group.  I already pictured myself being pampered from head to toe without the care in the world... then savoring carefully prepared meals to delight my tastebuds... nourishing the mind and body.

Welcome to Nurture Spa Village. The road to wellness begins here...

It was a beautiful Friday morning and our group was whisked away to cool Tagaytay City for the day. We were warmly received at Nurture Spa Village, one of the pioneering and multi-awarded spas in the country. I've heard only good things about Nurture Spa, so I was really looking forward to my first visit.

This day trip was extra special since I was with fellow moms who all truly deserve this luxurious pampering and rejuvenating treat.  It was a welcome break for all of us!  I was with Dainty Mom Martine (thanks for organizing!), The Painter's Wife Eliza (with her mom and tot in tow)Next 9 Jen, and Manila Mommy Neva.

A welcome band awaits our arrival complete with ethnic instruments, and soothing tarragon tea was served as we entered the receiving area. The courteous staff and management team were on hand to entertain our queries about Nurture Spa and what it has to offer.

Before I take you on this "tour", I have to say it was a unique, invigorating, and satisfying experience for me. I really appreciate Nurture Spa in its entirety, from their philosophy to their world-class services. Aside from being a destination spa, here's what distinguishes them from others:
  • Treatments and therapies are inspired by the unique Filipino healing traditions
  • Offers "Ecotherapy -- healing by and through nature"
    • The whole property is situated in a lush tropical forest, with wide open gardens, fresh air and sunlight -- a perfect setting to commune with nature while healing the mind and body
  • Offers complimentary and alternative medicine programs with their partner experts
  • Massage oils are blended fresh by it's sister company Spa Essentials, made from the finest therapeutic essential oils
  • Features international facial and spa brands Biodroga and Algotherm
  • Wellness services include customized detoxification, weight loss and anti-aging programs, liver/gall bladder flush, acupuncture, chronic disease management, and more
  • Facilites like an events pavilion, swimming pool, heritage huts, deluxe rooms and dorm rooms, restaurant and bar, business center, herb garden, reflexology path
Let me walk you through our day of wellness, courtesy of Nurture Spa.

The airy Events Pavilion where we dined and hung out before our treatments.

We began the tour at the herb and vegetable garden -- organic produce harvested and cooked for our meals that day.

Lettuce-picking for our salads!

Basket of lettuce... there were eggplants and radishes too! Can you spot the worm? =)

The expansive and tranquil village will help clear your mind.

Tan'aw Bar overlooking the vast garden and pool area.

A very inviting pool. It was warm that day and so tempting to jump in, except swimming was not part of our itinerary. :))))

I'm glad I captured this light moment with the mommas.

Spacious and comfortable rooms for guests staying a night or two, or even longer.

Relaxing open huts with lounge chairs for an outdoor foot spa experience. You may choose to have a facial treatment here as well.

The Ulog Heritage Huts, authentic Ifugao hut accommodation for couples.  The huts were knocked down from Banaue, transported, and rebuilt piece by piece on site. Read the amusing story of how the Ulogs arrived at Nurture Spa.

Typical, well-appointed garden view room with Filipiniana interior design.

Follow the path... the Reflexology Path.

A lovely row of rooms. Every path and corner is just picture-perfect.

This quaint cottage is actually the Institute of Natural Healing Wellness Center housing the alternative medicine programs.

After the tour cum sight-seeing around the village, we sat down to a mouth-watering selection of sweet and savory snacks.

Thick and rich Batangas Tsokolate Fondue served with yummy assorted cake bars, marshmallows, bananas, and bread sticks.

We also shared (clockwise): crispy Kakaibang Lumpia - spring roll stuffed with smoked mackerel, mango and cheese; a square Turon at Langka with Ice Cream which I thought was crepe a'la mode; Classic Bibingka; and Saba Chips with pineapple-mint salsa. My personal favorites are the lumpia and salsa-dipped banana chips!

After having our delicious snacks, we filled out a medical information sheet. Each one of us had an administered assessment before proceeding with the treatments.

The digital meridian scanner (DMS) is a computerized assessment system that will help the therapists personalize our treatments and address our health concerns.
My MENTAL STATE INDEX - ON "HIGH" = MENTAL STRESS
We had chosen different spa services and were ushered to our own treatment areas.  I chose a full body massage and a signature facial.

I was given a warm foot soak, and a foot scrub made from ground corn and soap.

My room features a receiving area, two massage beds, a shower area with tub, a separate toilet room, and it's own sauna room!

My 60-minute calming massage:
Arugâ – PhP 1,400
"Wonderful relaxation in our full body signature massage using Tranquility Massage Oil – a soothing blend of benzoin, cedar wood and grapefruit essential oils to relieve anxiety and tension, giving you a sense of deep calm and relaxation."
Followed by another hour of face pampering for younger looking skin -- I wish! :p

Anti Aging Facial – PhP 1,400
"A signature pampering treatment for all skin type using Biodroga's special formulations which makes you glow and look younger."

My therapist (apologies, I forgot her name) was very attentive to my needs, making sure that I was comfortable the whole time.  Pandan tea was served to cap off my two-hour pampering session.
Ahhh... pure bliss!

So this is the relaxed and refreshed me, post-treatment. :)

It's true that after a full-body massage, you'll get hungry.  And here's a sampling of what we had for the afternoon -- it was a delayed lunch since we opted for lighter meals before our treatments.

Craving for the raw choco-banana-nut bon bons!
Guests can choose from healthy, delectable, and satisfying food selection from Dulang Restaurant's menu, serving both vegetarian and hearty, meaty dishes!

It was already late in the afternoon and some flying insects were hovering around us as we finished off our meals.  By then, we all knew it was time to leave this slice of heaven.

After a quick stop to the shop for some all-natural Amuin products to bring home, we bade goodbye to our paradise for the day.  I wish to be back soon.

It was an amazing moms' day out for us, I tell you. This was a once-in-a-blue-moon escape for me.  Many thanks to Ms. Cathy Turvill of Nurture Spa Village for the invitation and for this wonderful accommodation.

And speaking of moms, a day trip to Nurture Spa would be a great idea to treat the most important women in your lives -- a priceless gift of wellness for Mother's Day, which is just weeks away!

"A blissful combination of authentic Filipino nurturing, healing and pampering at its best." This is the Nurture Spa promise!
